KQRS remains atop morning radio ratings

The KQ Morning Show - for over ten years, I've been listening every morning, while driving an Omni, a Del Sol, a Camaro, a Festiva and a van. I treated myself to a digital Walkman last year so I can listen on the bus.

The Morning Show has it's own lexicon and set of inside jokes - if you're a listener, you'll recognize the references to the "gunt", the arrest audio and Jeff Passolt saying, "I have to poop." When I meet another listener, there's an instant rapport, as if we belong to a secret fraternity.

Tom Bernard, the main host of the morning show, has been talking about his hernia a lot lately, and how it's been affecting his golf swing. This is the kind of frank talk that keeps me tuning in day after day. Long live the morning show! Yo mammy, boy.

  1. Time to stop listening to that garbage. Tom Barnard is nothing more than a conservative shill, spewing what he thinks his blue-collar demographic wants to hear. That type of mindless hate is pure bullshit. I stopped listening right around the 2000 election when all of his bits consistently targeted Al Gore but refused to go after Bush and all of his shortcomings. They had a good chance to ridicule him after the fact, but instead continued to make fun of Clinton. What's that, anyway? Nothing better than Rush Limbaugh lite.

  3. People take this entertainment outlet way too seriously! The broadcasters (like Tommy B, Howard Stern) have every right to take advantage of the audience to air their viewpoints. And frankly, those extremist views (left or right) are what keep ratings high (How many middle-of-the-road TV or radio talk shows can you think of?). If the listener is not capable to take the provided entertainment at face value, that is the listener's problem. It is not the problem of the show itself, nor of the other people that listen. That is fine you stopped listening to the KQ Morning Show because they ragged on Al Gore, but not everyone shares the same opinion or political views.

  6. Tom Barnard is just a self-appointed understudy for Rush Limbaugh's post, and exploiting the apparent blue-collar, anti-social victims of propaganda; people who desperately want to ridicule the rational, the intellectual, those who actually fact-check, and reality in general.
It's a disgrace that people in America can fall to such people as Tom Barnard for their primary source of information.

  7. I'm interested in how the morning show is considered political. Sure, they talk about politics, but the political talk is interspersed with anatomical humor and jokes about Delano. It would be pretty silly if I used the KQ Morning show as my sole source of information when I went to the polls. Jeez, I know better than that. I'm a fan of Wellstone's big green bus, and I actually saw it tooling through Apple Valley on Saturday. I cheered! I can't believe the bus is still on the road. I'm sure Tommy B. isn't too happy it's still around, but hey, I can enjoy the jokes about Delano without absorbing someone else's political views.
