In Peru, your super-size meal might include a super-size guinea pig. They've been used as a food source there for thousands of years, and now exporters are considering bringing them to the US as a new alternative source of meat. Check out this article from MSNBC, Guinea Pigs Scamper Onto Your Dinner Plate. The article says people in the US might be resistant to eating guinea pigs because they view them as a pet. Well, the people writing the article might not realize this, but Americans are already eating at least one animal they keep as a pet.
Sea Monkeys are a reasonably popular pet (I've raised two families myself.) Sea Monkeys are actually brine shrimp, but that doesn't slow anyone down during the all-you-can-eat Red Lobster shrimp fest. What's the difference between eating a plate of deep-fried Sea Monkeys for dinner and chowing down on a super-size guinea pig burger? Maybe it's just that guinea pigs are cuddlier and their squeaking sounds are cute. The Sea Monkeys aren't too cuddly. They have beady eyes and spend most of their time dive-bombing the muck at the bottom of their plastic tank. I don't eat that many animals myself, so I probably won't try out the new super size guinea pigs. I wonder if they taste like chicken?

People keep fish as pets, Lavonne's... but we love to eat those, too.
