Two Tickets to Paradise

Two Tickets to Paradise

Tomorrow I’m buying two tickets to Paradise, one for the van and one for the Echo. Paradise car wash is one of my favorite places. (It’s not my favorite place in the whole world. That would be the corner booth at the Old Piper Inn, near the free popcorn machine. But I digress.)

Paradise also has free popcorn. It’s great! You can watch your car being scrubbed through a huge window, as it moves along an automated conveyor. I love watching the Echo being sprayed with wax while I munch my popcorn. The best part about a trip to Paradise, though, is visiting Rainbow the parrot. She hangs out on a gigantic multi-level perch covered with toys, and she talks to the customers while they’re waiting.

Once upon a time, way back when I had my cherry red Del Sol convertible, I was chatting with another customer in Paradise. She was a nicely dressed older lady, probably retired. She pointed out her car as it chugged down the wash line. It was an almost brand-new fancy gold Volvo, a very expensive car. Then she asked which car was mine. “The little red one.”, I replied. She asked, “Is that a Porsche?” I couldn’t believe someone mistook my Del Sol for a Porsche! That was one of my proudest moments. I was grinning. Ah, the fond memories of a trip to Paradise.
