Farewell to the Van

Last weekend I took the Caravan for a final drive. She's no longer the prettiest van in Farmington. Now she's the prettiest van at Newgate technical school in Minneapolis. I donated the van to Newgate. That final ride was rough. It always is. The last time I saw my '86 Dodge Omni, I'm sad to say, I ended up tearing up. When I said goodbye to the Flaming Festiva, I gave him a final pat on the dashboard. I knew he was going to a good cause to support the humane society, but it was tough to say goodbye.

Newgate will be a good place for the van. They teach auto mechanics and body repair to disadvantaged young people. The students repair donated vehicles as a part of their class projects. Then the vehicles are given to mothers in the welfare-to-work program or sold to support the school. The van will be sold because she's to old to particpate in the welfare-to-work program. You should head up to Newgate to check out the vehicles for sale - it's on Hennepin and 29th. Maybe this is your chance to score my Dodge Grand Caravan!

Goodbye to the Van!
