I'm sure you are dying of curiosity about the new van. Last week I spotted a huge, baby blue GMC Vandura for sale on my way home from the Park'n'Ride. I whipped a U-turn in the Echo, and pulled up beside the van. Well, one thing led to another and on Saturday I became the proud new owner of a giant conversion van. It's a 3/4 ton with a 5.7L 350 V8. The Vandura has already been christened "The Beast".
Inside the Beast is a rolling living room, featuring two CD players, a TV and VCR, a fold-down table, 4 captains chairs, and a bed. It looks like it might be fun to take camping. Last Saturday I took it on a little road-trip to Grandma's. I was concerned Grandma might not like the Beast. When I called her before I left the house, she said, "Don't you have enough vehicles?" But then I took her for a spin over to the Dollar Store for soup and kleenexes. She said the Beast has "everything but the kitchen sink" and it has "very nice easy chairs."
We stopped by the doughnut shop for a snack, and Mr. Xo, the owner, said "Is that your van out there?", and I said yes, and he said "Why is it so big?" I explained that it was for camping, but I think he thought I was a little nutty. He just shook his head, smiled, and refilled the coffee pot for us.
When I dropped Grandma off, she said goodbye, then she turned and opened the front door again, and said, "I like your van!" The Beast has Grandma's stamp of approval, so I know it will be a great addition to the family.
