Automotive Tips from Will Steger

In a recent Star Tribune article, Will Steger (the Arctic explorer) gave this piece of advice, "Next time, buy a car that gets good gas mileage."
"'I'm 60, and in my entire life, what I've invested in my personal cars is not even $5,000 yet,' he said by phone from his home in Ely, Minn. These days, he's driving an '87 Oldsmobile that he inherited when a good friend of his sister's died."

Wow - amazing! A lifetime investment of less than $5000. Steger is now one of my personal role models. Sadly, I've already invested $9850 in the 10 vehicles I've owned, excluding my Echo. Steger has me beat. Imagine - his car is even older than the van, and he's proud of it! Next time someone mocks the van. I'll just point out that Will Steger, one of the toughest dudes ever, drives an '87 Oldsmobile.
